Responsibilities

Department: Research / Extended Experiences Research Group 

No. Of Positions: up to 2 researchers 

Reporting Line: Research Team Leader in coordination with the Project PI. 

Contract Type: Up to one-year fixed term employment contract will be offered with the possibility for renewal. Part Time 

Location: Nicosia, Cyprus

Indicative Annual Gross Salary Range – Full time Equivalent (FTE): €18,000 - €25,000 The salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role. 

Preferred Start Date: 1st July 2026, or as soon thereafter.

About the project / position:

 

CYENS is the Coordinator of ViWAS – Virtual Worlds Skills Academy, a major EU-funded project under the Digital Europe Programme. ViWAS aims to bridge the growing skills gap in virtual worlds, virtual reality, augmented reality and extended reality by developing a future-proof training and competence ecosystem for learners, educators, professionals and industry across Europe. The project brings together a large European consortium of beneficiaries and associated partners and will run for 48 months, from May 2026 to April 2030. 

 

The Opportunity 

The successful candidate(s) will join a multidisciplinary research team working on state-of-the-art Generative AI technologies and contribute to software development, experimentation, and evaluation of AI-driven solutions.


  1. Contribute to research and development activities within the ViWAS project.
  2. Develop and test software prototypes and AI-based solutions.
  3. Support the implementation and evaluation of Generative AI models and tools.
  4. Conduct literature reviews and technology assessments.
  5. Assist in preparing project reports, technical documentation, and deliverables.

General qualifications and requirements

Key requirements
Essential Requirements
  1. University Degree (Bachelor’s Degree or Degree of a level equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree) or Diploma or Certificate or other study title or qualifications in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field.
  2. Good programming skills and practical software development experience.
  3. Very good knowledge and understanding of Generative Artificial Intelligence technologies.
  4. Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI-assisted development tools.
  5. Computer literate.
  6. Excellent written and oral English-language skills.
  7. For non-EU applicants, a valid work permit will be required.
 
Desirable Qualifications
The following will be considered an advantage:
  1. Experience with AI-based image generation technologies.
  2. Experience with AI-based video generation technologies.
  3. Experience with machine learning, deep learning, or related AI frameworks.
  4. Familiarity with Python and modern AI development frameworks.
  5. Previous participation in research, innovation, or software development projects.
