About the project / position

The successful candidate will work in the area of AI-based medical image analysis with a focus on cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. CMR is a powerful non-invasive modality for the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases; however, current analysis methods face limitations related to data sparsity and variability, affecting the accuracy and clinical impact of CMR.  In this role, the successful candidate will develop and validate advanced analysis techniques using deep learning.  They will work under the supervision of the Project Coordinator (Dr. Xenios Milidonis) and will be based at CYENS Centre of Excellence, within a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment combining expertise in AI, image processing, computational methods, and healthcare technologies.

Responsibilities of Research Associate: 

  1. Perform data curation, preprocessing, and quality control of clinical CMR datasets
  2. Design, train and evaluate a deep learning model for 3D reconstruction of CMR perfusion images
  3. Perform image analysis and interpret results in collaboration with the Coordinator and other clinical partners
  4. Prepare and publish high-quality scientific manuscripts
  5. Contribute to the preparation of project deliverables and dissemination materials
  6. Contribute to other activities of the group and the Centre

 

General qualifications and requirements

General qualifications: 
  • Ph.D. / M.Sc. in Medical Imaging, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience in academic or applied research
  • 3 years of relevant experience required
  • Experience in experimental design and quantitative evaluation
  • Evidence of scientific writing and dissemination (e.g. peer-reviewed journal publications, conference presentations
Additional skills/knowledge/experience required: 
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience using deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch or TensorFlow)
  • Experience in medical image processing and analysis, preferably in MRI
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Additional Qualifications (will be considered an advantage): 
  • Experience with standard medical imaging software (e.g. DICOM viewers, segmentation tools)
  • Familiarity with Linux-based computing environments and version control systems (e.g. Git)
  • Experience in using statistical methods in medical research
 
For non-EU applicants, eligibility to work in Cyprus is subject to visa requirements.  Candidates who meet the criteria for expedited visa procedures may be prioritised, in view of project timelines.

Why us?

The position offers a fixed remuneration within the range of €28,000 – €33,500, determined by the project budget and scope of responsibilities, in line with the role’s expected contribution.
